Is This Thing On?

I have no idea where this site is headed.

Ok, I have some idea. But not much.

I started setting this site up after SoundCloud changed its terms of service to allow it to use all music files shared and stored there to train AI. No me gusta. I recognize no one really wants to hear my music, but it’s my art and I make it for myself if for no one else. But it belongs to me. I’m not doing this stuff to have it stolen even if the only person it’s worth anything to is me. Neither do I want to feed the vast AI server farms that are draining all the potable water from the most vulnerable communities among us and hastening climate catastrophe with their exorbitant energy use for good measure.

So I took my music off SoundCloud. I still have some files up on Spotify where fewer than ten people per month who are not in fact me stumble into a song they apparently bookmarked at some point because they know me and feel sorry for me.

One of the things I’m sure I’ll talk about at some point is making art, any art, and how it enriches one’s life, no matter one’s age. But that’s for another day.

Mostly, I needed to create an introductory blog post to justify the existence of this place. So if you’ve read this far, thank you. Welcome! The truth is I’m here to share a little of the wondrous exploration of the beauty of life and living. There’s plenty of ugliness, as we all know. Maybe I’ll talk about some of that too at some point, but I’m fundamentally a very fortunate man filled with gratitude, and I expect that’s going to come through in anything I put up on this site.
